Christmas Crochet Hat Patterns: 7 festive free crochet beanie hat patterns

Christmas Pudding elf and santa crochet hats

Before I started publishing my designs and selling crochet patterns, I loved to create fun festive crochet beanie hats.

My Christmas pudding beanie hat pattern with Holly sprig and berries was the first full design I made and one of the first crochet patterns I released when I began writing crochet patterns professionally.

In this post, you’ll find a round up of all the available festive holiday crochet hat patterns that I have created since.

All the crochet hat patterns are available to read on the blog for free in at least one size. Many also have a PDF version of the pattern you can purchase which includes a range of sizes, because you’re never too old to play dress up with crochet!

The characterful crochet beanies always made great christmas gifts for family and friends, and to this day, I get photos of my friend’s kids, nieces and nephews trying to still fit into their’s with a kindly smile and request for a bigger one!

So let’s get started.

1. Crochet Christmas Pudding Hat Pattern (with holly leaf and berries)

This cute, quick crochet Christmas pudding beanie hat pattern comes in 8 sizes from newborn to adult. The toddler version of the hat is free to read on the blog and the full premium PDF pattern includes all 8 sizes.

The crochet pattern comes with a separate video tutorial for the crochet holly leaf and berries. This was one of the first video tutorials I ever made and is also available as a stand alone free holly sprig crochet pattern.

This crochet hat pattern uses double knit yarn and a 4mm crochet hook and works up fast, using a relatively small amount of yarn.

The figgy pudding crochet hat pattern is suitable for beginners, with some crochet experience under their belts, who are happy to follow written patterns and maybe learn a thing or two!

2. Speedy Santa Hat: A quick and easy Father Christmas hat pattern

This one does what it says on the tin! It’s a crochet Father Christmas hat which is quick and easy to crochet.

It’s a free crochet pattern that’s beginner friendly and can be easily adjusted to suit any size if you are between the sizes offered.

The crochet Santa hat pattern uses double knit yarn held double (two strands together) or can be made with a single strand of a heavy worsted weight / light chunky or light bulky weight yarn instead.

You can learn more about pairing different yarn weights here.

3. Elf help hat: A chunky crochet elf hat pattern

Another quick and easy festive crochet hat pattern is the Christmas Elf Hat pattern – named the ‘elf help’ hat.

This is a simple crochet elf hat pattern that uses chunky / bulky weight yarn and is super fast to crochet.

The simple crochet hat is beginner friendly and is available in a range of sizes.

It’s also easy to customise the size to suit you. The crochet elf hat is made from the top down so you can simply stop increasing when you reach your desired size!

4. Brussel Sprouts crochet hat pattern

The crochet Brussel sprout hat pattern is very silly and a lot of fun.

It started out as an experiment for getting playful over the holiday season, but I documented the progress so figured it would be rude not to share the pattern once I had finished it.

Because of this the crochet pattern, which uses double knit yarn, is only available in one adult size.

However, if you’ve got some experience with sizing crochet hats and making a simple top down crochet hat, then it wouldn’t be too much trouble to adjust it to suit a range of sizes.

No PDF crochet pattern for this one. Just the free pattern on the blog.

5. Christmas Gift Hat Pattern

Another fun and silly festive crochet hat pattern. You are a gift – especially with this crochet gift beanie hat!

It’s a simple crochet hat design (a rectangle folded and seamed at the sides) which uses the stunning crochet star stitch and can be embellished as much as you like.

I have written up a separate tutorial and free crochet pattern for the decorative bow which I’ve used to top the gift.

This crochet pattern is for the holiday gift lovers and wrapping fans with a sense of humour!

6. Crochet snowman hat with a beanie pattern

I had so much fun designing this crochet snowman hat pattern. It’s a hat within a hat, which brings me joy.

I loved adding some fun decorative elements like the crochet carrot nose and crochet coal buttons, as well as making the mini crochet scarf and beanie set.

I don’t design a lot of amigurumi but it’s really nice to work with 3D crochet now and then.

The crochet pattern is suitable for advanced beginners. The basic hat is fairly simple and there are lots of step by step photos to help with the accessories. A great idea for a festive weekend crochet project.

The hat pattern also comes in a range of sizes.

7. Crochet Santa Hat Tree Topper

Okay, so this one is a bit of a cheat because it’s a hat to fit a tree, not a human head…but it was too cute not to share!

This crochet Christmas tree topper is made with chunky yarn and in a double layer so it’s both quick to make and will not flop on the big day!

The pattern is suitable for experienced beginners.

I hope you enjoy this crochet Christmas hat collection and that some of your family (yourself included) will soon be enjoying wearing them on their heads.

These patterns are all fun and joyful crochet christmas gift ideas that I hope will inspire you to get playful this Holiday season.

But the real question is, what should I make next?

Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Happy Festive Crocheting!

I doth my crochet snowman’s crochet beanie at you!
