Four Free (crochet patterns) Festive Fridays: An Affable Advent Event
The first year I started Dora Does, I created a Free Festive Friday event for the 8 weeks leading up to Christmas. I set myself the goal of releasing a new festive pattern on my blog every friday.
It was such a great way to get the creative juices flowing and really helped me learn a lot about blogging. (Back in 2017, I had very little idea what I was doing, but I was doing it anyway)
Over the years I have updated revised or ditched some of the patterns, though many of them are still on the blog and include crochet ornaments, festive hats and other alternative Christmas crochet projects.
You can still find the Pom pom tree project on here, the Festive AF wreath still adorns my door each year (though apparently I have deleted the post in a Mari Kondo style purge) and the crochet cord ‘paper chain’ still hangs where it was photographed (it never got put away with the rest of the decorations).
The Elf help hat and Speedy Santa hats were updated from the original series, the Star ornament is still available for free (with a photo tutorial) as is the ‘little christmas tree’ crochet decoration pattern which works up so quickly with a small amount of yarn.
And it was all kicked off with the release of my most popular Christmas Crochet Pattern, the Christmas pudding beanie hat.

This December I decided to revisit the free festive crochet theme, this time with a bit of a twist and with four free PDF crochet patterns up for grabs; some festive, some just for Winter.
For 2023, I’m hosting the ‘Four Free Festive Fridays; an affable advent event,’ which gives me the opportunity to give something back to you (in the form of some free crochet patterns) and lets me play with all the astounding alliterations…
So, how does the Free Festive Friday event work?
It’s kind of like a mini blog hop, but with just me taking part!
Starting December 1st and each Friday before Christmas, I will be giving away one PDF crochet pattern for free (via a download coupon code from ravelry) over a period of 48 hours.
I’ve double up on the usual 24 hours because I know this time of year can often come with a lot of time pressures and I don’t want you to miss anything.
The chosen pattern will be available for free from Midnight Thursday night / Friday morning (GMT / UK time) through until Midnight Saturday night / Sunday Morning GMT. So basically you have all of Friday and Saturday to grab the pattern.
The patterns will be a range of styles and skill levels, some festive, some not… you’ll have to come and check what’s behind each Friday’s door 🙂

How to get your Free Crochet Pattern
The format of this event follows the traditional blog hop format which you may well be used to by now/
The free PDFs will be available all of Friday and Saturday (midnight to midnight UK GMT)
Below is a step by step guide to how to get your free crochet pattern:
- Visit this page (the event homepage)
- Check out the relevant date (below)
- Make a note of the download coupon code – which will give you 100% off the PDF at ravelry checkout
- Follow the link to the pattern page (to see if it’s up your street)
- Read through the pattern page and look for free download button (example below)
- Hit the ‘download from raverlry’ button which will take you to the ravelry listing
- Use the 100% off download code to get your free pattern (which will be emailed through directly and added to your Ravelry library).
Then come back next Friday and do it all again!
The download button on each pattern page will look like the image below:

Note that the code only works on Ravelry.
Etsy does not allow 100% discounts so the code will not work there. Use the ‘download from raverly’ button to make sure you’re in the right place.
This page will be updated each week to reveal that week’s pattern. You will find them ordered by dates below.
Sometimes the site may be a little slow to update, so if you can’t see the free pattern, refresh the page a few times, or try clearing your cookies / cache or open the page in a private / incognito window (this will force your browser to get the latest version of the website)
If you want to make sure you don’t miss any of the free patterns, make sure you’re signed up to the WiP Tip as I will be sending a reminder to check in each Friday (with a little hint about what’s on offer!)
And that’s it!
I really am grateful for all the support and love you’ve shown me over the year and I hope this goes a little way to say thank you 🙂
