Skills Used
- Knowledge of basic crochet stitches, techniques and terminology is assumed
- Basic increases and decreases, colour changes and chinless foundation stitches
- Long stitches (working into unworked stitches two rows below)
- Matching gauge, blocking and sewing panels together
- Working in the back loops only to create a rib stitch
- Following a written pattern
- I created a tutorial demonstrating the colour-work section
- I also created a video showing how to construct the garment from panels to help with the joining process
This is an intermediate level pattern and requires the ability to accurately read written patterns. It is important to match gauge for this pattern and to block your work to achieve the best finish.

I used a Clover Amour Crochet Hook for this project – one of my favourites – learn more about different crochet hooks here.
Yarn Requirements
You will require approximately 1180(1220, 1450, 1630, 1750, 1960, 2080, 2410, 2530)m of double knit yarn.
The sweater you see pictured used the following yarns:
880(895, 1100, 1225, 1295, 1440, 1525, 1685, 1755)m Main Colour (MC): King Cole Merino Blend DK undyed, 100% wool, 250g hank=520m
For the Contrast Colours you will need approximately 300(325, 350, 405, 455, 520, 555, 725, 775)m in total (across all colours).
I used Yarnsmiths Merino DK superwash, 100% Merino Blend Wool, 50g=110m, in the following shades:
- 1(1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) balls(s) CC1: Fandango Pink – Shade 4382
- 1(1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) ball(s) CC2: Light Pink – Shade 4410
- 1(1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) ball(s) CC3: Cornflower Blue – Shade 4270
- 1(1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) ball(s) CC4: Candyfloss Pink – Shade 4400
- 1(1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) ball(s) CC5: Bright Orange – Shade 4130
I have included 50g ball quantities above to give you an idea how the quantities are split between colours.
Yarn Substitution Options
Similar double knit yarns which match the blocked gauge will work for this pattern. I would suggest a wool and/or acrylic blend fibre. Different fibres and yarns will produce a different finished result.
I used a 100% wool blend yarn which stretched a lot whilst blocking, so do make sure you block swatch in your chosen fibre to ensure that you match gauge after blocking. I found the fabric stretched more on the row gauge than the stitch gauge.

Other Materials & Notions
- You will also need a stitch marker and a Blocking board and pins.
- Learn more about blocking here.
- Yarn needle, scissors and a tape measure
- Stitch marker for the sleeve shaping
