Light Waves Crochet Vest Top Pattern
Light Waves is a relaxed-fit, camisole style crochet vest top with wide straps and a square neckline. It’s worked top down with no sewing, using a gentle, lacy ripple stitch pattern.

Skills Used
The crochet pattern uses a relatively simple two-row repeat wave stitch pattern. Given the importance of stitch placement, I have classed it as a experienced-beginner to intermediate level pattern.
- Knowledge of basic crochet stitches, techniques and terminology is assumed
- The pattern uses extended double crochet and chain stitches throughout
- Working in rows and turned rounds with simple increases and decreases
- Working into both sides of a chain (tutorial here)
- A stitch diagram is included in the pattern
- A photo tutorial showing the construction steps is also included in the pattern

Materials
Crochet Hook
4.5mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge, and a 4mm hook for the trim round the straps.
I used a Clover Amour Crochet Hook for this project – one of my favourites – learn more about different crochet hooks here.
Note that I used a hook larger than that recommended for the yarn weight. This was intentional to create additional drape.
Yarn Requirements
You will need approximately 480(550, 580, 620, 680, 770, 800, 830, 860) metres of 4 ply / fingering weight yarn. This is equivalent to approximately 120(135, 145, 155, 170, 195, 200, 210, 220)g based on 400m per 100g skein.
As a guide, you will need just over half the amount of Yarn A as Yarn B if you follow the same colourwork pattern, though the proportion will vary somewhat with the size. In the size Small sample, I used about 50g of Yarn A and about 85g of Yarn B.
The main two-colour sample used 100% Silk singles 4 ply weight yarn from Yarn Tings, 100g=400m.
The shades used were as follows:
- Yarn A: Faves
- Yarn B: That’s Deep

The pink, single colour sample used Fyberspates Scrumptious 4 ply in shade Baby Pink, 45% Silk, 55% Wool, 100g=365m.

Yarn Substitution Options
You can use a variety of similar weight yarns which match gauge for this pattern. I think the design will work in a range of fibres other than the silk/silk-wool blend. If you prefer to use plant fibres, a bamboo blend could help create similar movement. I think the pattern could suit a soft cotton too.
Different fibres and yarns will produce a different finished result, so always swatch to check you’re happy with your yarn. You may find this post useful when choosing yarn.
Other Materials & Notions
- Yarn needle, scissors and a tape measure
- 2 stitch markers to mark Right Sides and 2 for the neckline trim
- This project will benefit from blocking so I recommend a Blocking board and pins. Learn more about blocking here.
