Stole’n Cuddles Faux Fur Shrug – Free Crochet Pattern

Faux fur crochet scarf with denim jacket

When browsing in my local Hobbycraft store recently, I came across the Chinchilla yarn from James C Brett (aff). Whilst I don’t often work with ‘fashion’ yarns, I could not resist giving this a try as I’ve never felt a yarn so soft and cuddly – there was no way I could leave this on the shelf!

As if it were planned, the previous day I had seen a beautiful faux fur Scarf / Stole / Shrug (I’m never when one turns into the next!) and I knew straight away that this was what I wanted to recreate.

After playing round with a couple of swatches, I worked up a stitch pattern that would leave one side flat (this is the side which goes on the inside round your neck) and the other side curved, allowing it to sit flush on your shoulders.

When worn with a simple jacket it has the added effect of looking like a fur collar (and is just as cosy!)

A faux fur crochet scarf is coiled round the neck of a denim jacket laid out flat. A text overlay reads ‘faux fur crochet scarf pattern.’

Faux fur crochet scarf or stole

This was such a soft and easy yarn to work with, though it was a bit of an exercise in blind crochet as you can’t see your stitches so you have to feel your way!

Even so, the scarf takes only around an hour to make so if you need a quick gift for someone, this is perfect. It’s so soft and cuddly, I never want to take it off!

Without further ado, here’s the pattern so get stuck in!

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern uses U.S crochet terms
  • The pattern is worked end to end length ways in half double crochet, using ch1 turning chains which do not count as stitches
  • Gauge is not important for this pattern (approximate finished size is listed below)
  • Numbers in brackets at the end of the row represent the number of stitches in that row and are given only where there is a change in the stitch count
  • This pattern is suitable for a confident beginner – the pattern is simple but the yarn makes it hard to see the stitches!

Materials

Finished Measurements

  1. I really love all of your work. You are truly blessed. I’m trying really hard to learn on youtube videos but I love your teaching style! I hope to follow your style. i just became a grandmother for the first time. I’m a beginner so I do the granny squares but I’m attempting other patterns and I find myself frustrated at times. I feel there is much deception on youtube. They do the videos and say the pattern is below but when you go there it is not. They speak really fast and turn the work and proceed with out really showing but just talking. I don’t mind buying stuff from youtubers but as you said, don’t try to trick me. God Bless you!

    1. Thank you for your kind words! I’m so glad you’ve been able to follow along ok and that I could help you. It can be really tough when you get started (I learned from YouTube mostly too) but keep practicing and you’ll get there!!!
And congratulations on becoming a grandmother!! 😊
