This weekend, I’m so excited to be introducing you to “Live Creative“, a new adventure for of Dora Does.
Even before Dora Does popped into existence I had such respect for the creators, crafters and makers of the world. They way you pour you love into everything you do. You work so hard to create such unique work. You support and cheer each other on and are the most generous bunch I have ever come across. I feel so honoured and excited to slowly become part of your group and want to take a moment to thank you all for your kindness and welcoming omnipresence!
It was this wonderful community which sparked the Live Creative idea in my mind. I want to celebrate creativity in all it’s forms and to offer something to allow the creative community to celebrate themselves. This is the message I was trying to send with my crochet “I made this” blanket pattern – it was designed as a way for crocheters to proudly show what they could do.
Live Creative is an extension of this, only with less effort required on your part! I’ll be offering a range of goodies via my Etsy Store designed for creatives, in whatever form that creativity may take! I believe strongly that everyone has oodles of creativity within them, even those who say they don’t. Creativity is often interpreted as ‘being arty’, but it is so much more than that. I’m not knocking arty folk, not one bit, the point I’m making is that being creative isn’t just about having paint on your shoes!
Creativity takes so many forms, yes it’s painting and drawing, writing and making thought provoking and beautiful things. But at it’s very core, I think that creativity is about problem solving. It’s about thinking sideways, diagonally and backwards. It’s about exploring the less obvious.
Take code writers or engineers who people see as ‘mathsy’ but, oh my goodness, look at what they create! The programs they write, the bridges they build. It’s mind blowing. So the next time you hear someone say “I’m not creative”, get them to think about problems they’ve solved in just the last week and I bet they will start to see it a little differently!
Then there are those who relish in their creativity. Who recognise it and maybe make a living out of it. I want to raise a glass to you because it’s hard! If there’s one thing I learned since starting Dora Does, it’s that everyone in this business feels like an imposter, certainly at the start. I’ve realised that we are all basically winging it, and that is scary, but I’m jumping into the fray nonetheless!
Live Creative is starting small with some creative slogan t-shirts. Giving an opportunity to creative people to show the world who they are, who you are, is at the core of what I’m trying to achieve. That’s how I came up with the “Crafty” and “Maker” tees.
Here’s a peek!
I’ll be using my own creativity (which is still scary to say!) to bring you more additions to the range over the coming weeks and hopefully beyond. I haven’t forgotten my roots either – there’s something just for the crocheters out there coming very soon too, so watch this space!!
I hope you’ll join me in my little crusade to celebrate the creative in you, even if that just means looking in the mirror and giving yourself a little creative confidence boost! You are awesome!
